Situated about three miles from the intersection of Sonoma, Lake, and Mendocino counties, this vineyard is planted high on the ridge separating the Alexander Valley and Clear Lake AVAs. Its steep slopes of 5-20% face northwest and range in elevation from 2,300 to 2,660 feet. As part of the youngest volcanic flow in the North Coast region, the site is composed of intensely red soils shot with obsidian rock and gravel. The vines benefit from cool evenings due to good air drainage, high elevation, and breezes off the Mayacamas Range. | $30 / bottle |

| STEP THREE: Barrel Selection | ||
| New French Oak | Tight grain, high tannins and low aromatic influence on the wine. It has to be hand split due to its structure (20% of log usuable). Contributes strongly to mid palate/ back bone of the wine, with subtle aromatic influence (toast, spice) on the nose. | $1,100 |
| New American Oak | Characterized by relatively fast growth, wider grains and lower wood tannins. It can be quarter sawed (50% of log useable for staves; Contributes strongly to the aromatic of the wine and more subtly to the mid palate/ back bone of the wine. | $605 |
| Used French Oak / Used American Oak (2 years old) |
While new oak may strongly influence the wine profile, the used oak influence is more subtle. Used oak has the tendency to respect the crop but may not enhance fully the wine potential. | $425 |
